A psychological contract is a group of things that the individual expects about what he or she will get or give in the employment relationship. An ideal working situation is on in which the communication of values back and forth between the employer and employee is considered fair by both parties. Contributions are work activities that make the employee someone who is valuable to a company. Typical contributions are things like work, time, and effort. Inducements are what the employee receives in return for contributing to the business. Typical inducements are things such as pay, benefits, and promotions to higher positions within the company. The diagram to the left shows the ideal working situation with regards to a psychological contract.
