what are they?

Picture
Boundaryless organizations are organizational structures that get rid of boundaries in subsystems and the external environment. This type of structure is basically like a combination of the other two directions in organizational structures, team and network structures. In this structure, there are no boundaries that normally divide members of a company from each other. Externally, organizational needs are met by a mixture of outsourcing contracts and working alliances that get created and destroyed as situations change. A diagram of a boundaryless organization can be seen to the left.

Characteristics that identify a boundaryless organization are the following:

- No hierarchy
- The empowerment of team members
- The utilization of technology

A virtual organization is an organization that works in a moving network of outside alliances that are engaged using information technology and the Internet. In this type of organization, the barriers that divide a company from its suppliers, customers, and even competitors are gotten rid of.
