what is it exactly?

Picture
Part time work is work that is performed within less of a five-day, eight-hours-a-day work week. In other words, part time work does not require the employee to work full time. Contingency workers are often relied upon by employers. Contingency workers are people who are employed part time for a certain period of time to supplement a permanent workforce. An example of a part time job, cashiering, can be seen to the left.

One advantage of part time work is that it is easy to hire people to complete it. There are constantly teenagers applying to part time jobs at big stores such as Wal-Mart and Target in order to make money so they can save it towards their university or college tuition. Unfortunately, this results in the disadvantage that part time workers come and go very quickly, which requires employment of new workers and, thus, time and effort to train new workers. This decreases the efficiency-level of a company, since they are continuously having to train people how to do their jobs. The good news is that part time work, such as cashiering, is often not very complex, which makes it easy for new part time employees to be successfully trained. Other disadvantages of part time work include the low wages that part time workers earn and the lack of commitment they seem to have towards their jobs. Since most part time workers are adolescents, most of whom do not yet realize the value of commitment and dedication, they do not seem to care about doing extremely well at their jobs.
